fd

A faster, friendlier take on the classic search command

About

A modern rewrite that walks directories in parallel. It skips build folders and hidden entries by default. The syntax is friendlier than the older tool, and colour plus smart-case matching come built in.

Install it

pkg install fd

Run this inside Termux. If the package is already present, pkg will say so and do nothing.

Commands worth knowing

6 of the invocations you will actually reach for. Tap the copy button to put one on your clipboard.

fd config Search the hierarchy for any path containing the pattern. An all-lowercase pattern matches case-insensitively.
fd -e md Restrict matches to one extension, here Markdown documents.
fd -t d Directories only. Ordinary entries are filtered out.
fd -H Include hidden items and folders that are normally skipped.
fd -x rm Run a command once per match, passing each path as an argument.
fd -s Force case-sensitive matching, even for a lowercase pattern.

Worked example

Run fd -e md and this is what you should see.

termux
$ fd -e md
