htop
Colourful interactive process viewer with scrolling and shortcuts
About
htop is an interactive process viewer with load and memory bars and a scrollable list of tasks, colour coded. Sort, search and send signals without leaving the interface. It is friendlier than a bare monitor and worth installing on a phone for a readable overview.
Install it
pkg install htop
Run this inside Termux. If the package is already present, pkg will say so and
do nothing.
Commands worth knowing
6 of the invocations you will actually reach for. Tap the copy button to put one on your clipboard.
htop Open the interactive viewer. Bars for load and memory sit above a sortable list of tasks. htop -u u0_a123 Show only tasks belonging to one user. Trims the list on a shared system. htop -s PERCENT_MEM Start with the list sorted by memory use instead of processor time. htop -d 5 Set the refresh delay in tenths of a second. A larger number slows the updates down. htop -t Display the process tree. Parent and child tasks are grouped together. htop -C Run in monochrome. Helps when colours render badly over a remote connection. Worked example
Run htop -u u0_a123 and this is what you should see.
$ htop -u u0_a123
