procs

Modern replacement for ps with colour and sensible defaults

About

procs is a process viewer written in Rust. It replaces the classic listing with colour-coded, human-readable columns, shows the tree by default, and understands simple filters. Use it when you want a nicer default view than a traditional snapshot.

Install it

pkg install procs

Run this inside Termux. If the package is already present, pkg will say so and do nothing.

Commands worth knowing

6 of the invocations you will actually reach for. Tap the copy button to put one on your clipboard.

procs List processes with colour. Command, user and resource use appear in readable columns.
procs --tree Draw parent and child relationships as a tree. Follow what spawned what.
procs --sortd cpu Order the list by processor use, heaviest first.
procs firefox Filter the list to rows matching the given text. Narrows a long list to the tasks you care about.
procs --watch Refresh the display continuously instead of printing once. A lightweight live view.
procs --insert 4321 Include only the processes you name. A fixed set stays visible while others are hidden.

Worked example

Run procs --tree and this is what you should see.

termux
$ procs --tree
PID PPID USER CPU MEM COMMAND
    1 0 root 0.0 0.4 init
  201 1 root 0.0 0.2 ├─ sshd
 4321 201 u0_a123 1.2 2.3 │ └─ com.termux
