nano

A small, friendly editor that keeps its shortcuts on screen

nano Editors

About

nano is a simple terminal editor. It lists its key bindings along the bottom of the screen, so you need not memorise commands. Good when you want to change a configuration file quickly.

Install it

pkg install nano

Run this inside Termux. If the package is already present, pkg will say so and do nothing.

Commands worth knowing

5 of the invocations you will actually reach for. Tap the copy button to put one on your clipboard.

nano config.conf Open a file for editing with shortcut hints shown along the bottom.
nano -l config.conf Open a file with line numbers down the side.
nano -v config.conf Open a file read-only, so nothing can be saved by mistake.
nano -w config.conf Open a file without wrapping long lines. Keeps indentation honest.
nano -m config.conf Open a file with mouse support on, for selecting and placing the cursor.

Worked example

Run nano -l config.conf and this is what you should see.

termux
$ nano -l config.conf
  1 # server settings
  2 port = 8080
  3 host = localhost
     [ Read 3 lines ]

The status line reports how many lines were read.
