tmux

Keep sessions alive and split one terminal into many panes

About

tmux is a terminal multiplexer. It runs a session in the background so your work survives a dropped connection, and it splits the screen into windows and panes. Long jobs keep running on a phone you might close at any moment.

Install it

pkg install tmux

Run this inside Termux. If the package is already present, pkg will say so and do nothing.

Commands worth knowing

6 of the invocations you will actually reach for. Tap the copy button to put one on your clipboard.

tmux new -s work Create a named session. Detach from it now, reattach later, and lose nothing that was running.
tmux attach -t work Reconnect to a session you detached earlier. Every window and pane returns as you left it.
tmux ls List running sessions with names and uptime. Pick the right one to rejoin.
tmux new-window -n logs Add another window inside the current session and name it. Related work stays together, out of the way.
tmux split-window -h Split the current window into two side-by-side panes. Watch output in one while you type in the other.
tmux kill-session -t work End a session and everything inside it once that piece of work is done.

Worked example
