fzf

Interactive fuzzy finder you can pipe anything into

About

fzf turns a list of lines into a searchable menu you can filter by typing. Pipe history, file names or any command output into it, then pick a line. It is the quickest way to add fuzzy selection to your own shell functions.

Install it

pkg install fzf

Run this inside Termux. If the package is already present, pkg will say so and do nothing.

Commands worth knowing

5 of the invocations you will actually reach for. Tap the copy button to put one on your clipboard.

fzf Read lines from standard input and filter them interactively. The chosen line is printed, ready for the next command.
fzf --height 40% Open the picker in a panel instead of taking over the whole screen. Surrounding context stays visible.
fzf --multi Select several lines at once with the tab key. Useful when you want to act on a batch of files.
fzf --preview "cat {}" Show a live preview of the highlighted item beside the list. Inspect it before choosing.
fzf --bind ctrl-a:select-all Add a custom key binding. One keystroke selects every entry in the filtered list.

Worked example

Run fzf --multi and this is what you should see.

termux
$ fzf --multi
/scratch/work/notes.txt
/scratch/work/todo.md
/scratch/work/draft.docx
